What is OpenSea?
OpenSea is the largest decentralized marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum blockchain. At OpenSea, we're excited about a brand new type of digital good called a non-fungible token, or NFT. NFTs have exciting new properties: they’re unique, provably scarce, tradeable, and usable across multiple applications. Just like physical goods, you can do whatever you want with them! You could throw them in the trash, gift them to a friend across the world, or go sell them on an open marketplace. But unlike physical goods, they're armed with all the programmability of digital goods. A core part of our vision is that open protocols like Ethereum and interoperable standards like ERC-721 and ERC-1155 will enable vibrant new economies. We're building tools that allow consumers to trade their items freely, creators to launch new digital works, and developers to build rich, integrated marketplaces for their digital items. OpenSea's customizable store fronts, gas-free transactions, integration with other marketplaces, royalty payments for creators, and auction-style and instant-sale options set it apart from other NFT marketplaces. These features help to create a more user-friendly, accessible, and sustainable ecosystem for NFTs, and position OpenSea as a leader in the growing NFT space.

Customizable store fronts
OpenSea allows creators to customize their own store fronts to showcase their NFTs. Creators can add custom banners, profile pictures, and descriptions to give their store front a unique look and feel. This feature helps creators build a brand around their NFTs and creates a more personalized experience for buyers.

Gas-free transactions
OpenSea allows users to buy and sell NFTs without paying gas fees. Gas fees are the transaction fees associated with sending a transaction on the Ethereum network, and they can be a significant barrier for many users. OpenSea's gas-free transactions enable users to buy and sell NFTs without worrying about these additional fees.

Integration with other marketplaces
OpenSea integrates with other marketplaces, such as Rarible and SuperRare, to create a unified NFT ecosystem. This integration enables users to easily discover and buy NFTs from multiple marketplaces without having to switch between different platforms. Additionally, OpenSea's integration with other marketplaces helps to increase the overall liquidity of the NFT market.

Royalty payments for creators
OpenSea enables creators to earn royalties on their NFTs whenever they are resold on the platform. This feature ensures that creators continue to earn income from their NFTs even after they have been sold. Additionally, it incentivizes creators to continue producing high-quality NFTs and helps to create a more sustainable ecosystem for NFTs.

Auctions and instant sales
OpenSea offers both auction-style and instant-sale options for buying and selling NFTs. This feature enables buyers to purchase NFTs at a fixed price or participate in auctions to bid on highly coveted items. This flexibility ensures that buyers and sellers can transact in a way that works best for their needs and preferences.

FAQ
We provide email support for all of our users. When you fill out our support form, you'll be asked to provide: Your email address, Your wallet address (if applicable), Detailed information about your question or the issue you're experiencing
Gas fees are transaction fees paid to validators on Ethereum. OpenSea does not receive these fees and is not able to refund them. OpenSea also doesn't control gas prices nor does it profit from them. In this article, we'll explain what validators are and explore why gas fees are needed. We'll also go over the two categories of gas fees you'll encounter on OpenSea (one-time fees and recurring fees), as well as failed transactions.Let's dive in!
Floor price is the lowest price for collection items, rather than the average item price, and is updated in real-time. Dutch auctions are not included in floor price calculations.
OpenSea is compatible with several blockchains. In this guide, we'll show you how to use Chainlist to add other blockchains to your crypto wallet. 1. Navigate to https://chainlist.org/. 2. Click Connect Wallet in the top right corner. 3. Once your wallet is connected, for this example we'll add the Polygon Network (also called Matic network). Type 'matic' in the search bar. 4. Click Add to MetaMask under the Matic Mainnet option (or your desired network). 5. You will be prompted by Metamask to allow Chainlist to add a Network. Click Switch network. Once you've added your desired network, you can switch networks by opening MetaMask and clicking at the top of the MetaMask extension. You'll see your current network displayed. Click on it and you can select any network from the drop-down list. We've clicked on Matic Mainnet (Polygon PoS), but you can select any of the networks listed. Once you select the network, you should be on your new network.
NFT profile pictures are a way to show off the NFTs you own on your Twitter profile. Adding your NFT to your Twitter profile requires a temporary connection to your crypto wallet. After confirming this connection request in your crypto wallet, your NFT displays in a special hexagon shape that identifies you as the owner of that NFT
We use “rarity” ranking to describe the relative scarcity of one NFT’s attributes compared to another in the same collection. An NFT with rare attributes will have a lower rarity ranking (such as 1 or 2) than an NFT that shares attributes with thousands of others in the collection. When rarity rankings vary across platforms and use different methodologies, it can cause confusion for buyers and sellers and make it difficult to use rarity for purchase and sale decisions. To provide a unified and transparent set of rarity rankings across our marketplace, OpenSea has adopted the OpenRarity standard—an open, transparent and reproducible standard for rarity rankings across the NFT industry. OpenRarity is an open collaboration between OpenSea, icy.tools, Curio, and PROOF. The latest version includes Double Sort and Trait Count updates, improving rarity rankings for 1 out of 1 unique traits and giving more weight to trait counts that are less common. On OpenSea, eligible collections will show a numerical rarity ranking on the item page and on the collection page.
Wondering why some NFTs end up in your “Hidden” tab on OpenSea? Let’s learn more. One of the interesting properties of many blockchains is the ability for anyone to send and receive tokens to and from wallet addresses. That means you don’t have to buy or sell an NFT to have one transferred to your wallet. You don’t even need to accept a transfer to receive an NFT from someone else, similar to how you can receive an email from anyone. Receiving an NFT you didn’t purchase doesn’t mean your wallet has been compromised. Sometimes, legitimate creators mint NFTs to people directly as part of a collection’s airdrop. But sometimes, similar to receiving a spam email, scammers will use transfers to send you NFTs that entice you to view NFT listings that contain links to malicious third-party websites. To protect our users, OpenSea will generally move a transferred NFT to the Hidden tab if we think that it might be suspicious. In this case, the item won’t be in your Collected tab and the transfer won’t appear in your activity feed. Like an email spam folder, sometimes legitimate NFTs will appear in the Hidden tab, and at other times, malicious NFTs may appear in the Collected tab. Always exercise caution when clicking on a non-OpenSea URL associated with an NFT.
When you purchase an NFT on OpenSea the ownership may not immediately update. This delay is typically due to congestion on the Ethereum blockchain. We recommend waiting a few minutes and refreshing the item’s page on OpenSea. Your wallet address should show as the owner of the item! If, however, your transaction reads as successful on a blockchain explorer (such as Etherscan), and ownership still isn’t updated on OpenSea, we may need to re-sync our platform to the blockchain.
In order to troubleshoot issues with buying or selling your NFT, a support team member will need your 'transaction hash' from a blockchain explorer.Transaction hashes are unique IDs recording each transaction on the blockchain; this includes NFT purchases, sales, and canceled orders. All gas fees paid will generate a transaction hash.Depending on the cryptocurrency used to purchase the NFT, you'll need to use the relevant blockchain explorer. ETH — Etherscan . Polygon — Polygonscan . Solana — Solscan . The example below is for Etherscan, but other blockchain explorers work in a similar way.
An item minted on the blockchain can’t be “deleted” the same way you would delete a file or a folder from your personal computer, but you do have some options for handling NFTs you didn’t purchase or no longer want to show in your account. This article outlines 3 options for removing an NFT: Deleting an item on OpenSea will remove it from the Collected tab on your profile, Hiding an item on OpenSea will move it from the Collected tab to the Hidden tab, “Burning” an item will remove it from your wallet entirely
